But before you pick up the phone, make sure to review the troubleshoots below. You may be able to get your heating system up and running without scheduling a service call at all!

Check The Thermostat

What is the temperature setting on your thermostat? Is it set to at least 5˚ warmer than the current temperature in the room? Also—make sure that the thermostat is set to “heat” and that the batteries are still good. Install new batteries to check. You’ll be surprised how the simple fixes tend to be the most common! If these don’t work, go to the next step.

Heating System Switch

If the switch is set to “ON,” try the next step. If it is not, turn the system switch to “ON.” If nothing happens, call us to request a service call.

Check How Much Fuel You Have

Check the tank gauge levels for your propane or heating oil tank. If your tank is 15% or less full, call us IMMEDIATELY for a fuel delivery.

You can avoid runouts like this by enrolling in Automatic Delivery for propane or heating oil. We track your fuel usage and schedule a delivery to your home before you run low. Have plenty of fuel? Move on to the next check.

Check the Circuit Breaker

Circuit breakers can easily be tripped. Check the breaker for your furnace or boiler. If it’s been tripped, turn it back on. If it wasn’t tripped, go to the next troubleshoot.

Check the Air Filter

If you have a furnace, the air filter can get clogged, causing the furnace to shut down. Check your air filter and change if it’s dirty. You need to check your air filter at least once a month—especially if members of your home suffer from respiratory conditions—and change as needed.

Check The Boiler

Do you have a boiler? If it’s a steam boiler, check the water level in the gauge glass. It needs to be at least half-full. If it isn’t, call us. If it is, go to the last step. If you have a hot water boiler, this troubleshoot does not apply, so move on to the final step.

Reset Button

Push and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. But only do this ONCE. Doing it more than once can damage your heating system. If your furnace or boiler doesn’t work after this, call us.

Get peace of mind when it comes to keeping your home warm and safe. Become a Frank Lamparelli customer today and we’ll keep your home warm and comfy all winter long—and beyond!
