Heating Oil: More Clean-Burning than Ever

heating oilThere was major news that occurred this past summer in Massachusetts: the switch in our state to ultra-low sulfur heating oil. As of July 1, 2018, all of the heating oil in Massachusetts transferred to an ultra-low sulfur grade of fuel. You might be wondering what ultra-low sulfur fuel is or what it means for you. However, because we have always been strongly committed to the environment, we have delivered heating oil with an ultra-lowsulfur content for more than 10 years.

Sulfur is the component of heating oil that leads to most of the maintenance issues and system problems that arise during the life of an oil heating system. With the sulfur content now being virtually eliminated from heating oil—in Massachusetts and the rest of New England—homeowners will see their systems operating more efficiently and will see their heating costs reduced because their systems will run longer without major issues.

This is a win for the industry and for all homeowners who use clean-burning heating oil.

Making a good thing even better

As an environmentally conscious company, we have been delivering Bioheat® for more than a decade now. This is a clean-burning fuel that blends traditional heating oil and biodiesel, a refined fuel made from renewable natural sources.
In Massachusetts, which has some of the most ambitious environmental goals in the country, Bioheat is helping the Commonwealth meet its goal of a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. We’re proud to be playing a role in this.
The quality of your heating oil will get even better in the years ahead. The National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) continues to research and develop higher blends of biodiesel that can be matched to ultra-efficient, groundbreaking equipment. One research project involves transforming wood waste into a liquid for use in heating oil. A field test of this renewable fuel was conducted recently in Maine.

Our hope is that our heating oil customers—both current and future ones—will call on Frank Lamparelli for all their heating fuel needs so we can enjoy this exciting ride together in the years ahead.
